SUMMARY:Panel Discussion about GoRaleigh ADA Transportation Program
DESCRIPTION:Good afternoon\, friends\, \nYou may have seen in the news on WRAL that the city of Raleigh’s Go-Raleigh Access (ADA paratransportation for persons with disabilities) has implemented a new software program which has fundamentally changed the nature of this service in our city. \nOn August 15\, 2023\, many persons who use this service appeared before city council during public comment to voice their views\, concerns and frustration. While council expressed concerns and had questions of transit staff\, we feel it necessary to hold another meeting to continue to impress upon city council the urgency of this matter. Therefore\, I do request that you come to this meeting to lend your support in this effort. Some of you may have persons with disabiliites in your family who may use this service or may in the future have need of it. See the information below. thanks for your consideration and support. \nCarolina friends\, \nWe were very successful in having our transportation concerns heard at the August 15\, 2023 meeting of the Raleigh City Council. Both the council and the staff of the Go Raleigh/Art program have a deeper understanding of our frustrations and how we have been so greatly adversely impacted with the new transportation software. As a follow-up\, you are invited to attend a panel discussion program where further insights and ideas will be gained to strengthen and make better the Go Raleigh ADA transportation program. Everyone will have the opportunity to engage with the pannal and other guests. The meeting will be held on the evening of August 23 from 5:30 until 7:30 at the Community United Church of Christ/814 Dixie Trail/Raleigh. Sighted guide and other types of assistance will be available. Contact me at (919) 616 1606 or robertcparrish7@gmail.com with any questions. \nMr. Robert Parrish President Wake Federation of the Blind \nMr. Lawrence Carter\, President\, Raleigh-Wake Council of the Blind \nDr. Ricky Scott\, President\, GMS Alumni Association

SUMMARY:Hillsborough-Wade CAC Meeting
DESCRIPTION:Hi Hillsborough-Wade CAC neighbors\, \nWe’ll have our Hillsborough-Wade CAC meeting on Tuesday\, August 29th at 7:00 PM. We’ll meet on Zoom (see link at the bottom of this email). \nAGENDA:\n• Police report by Officer Kevin Taylor\n• Jeff Murison will give us an update on the Hillsborough Street Community Corporation\n• Report on the new voting rules for North Carolina by Cheryl Tung\, President of the League of Woman Voters of Wake County\n• Presentation about the West Morgan Neighborhood Association by Carol Gabor and Elizabeth Hofelt\n• Discussion of current rezoning cases within our CAC boundaries\n• If time permits\, conversation about the future of CACs \nI think other neighborhoods within our CAC could learn a lot from the organizing efforts of the West Morgan Neighborhood Association! (Please read about them below.) \nIf your neighborhood has a listserv\, please forward this email to your neighborhood. Thanks! \nSee you in two weeks\, \nMike Lindsay\nChair of the Hillsborough-Wade CAC \nPhone:919-828-0619\nMobile: 919-429-0177\ninform@nc.rr.com \n \nDetails about the West Morgan Neighborhood Association from Carol Gabor:\nThe West Morgan Neighborhood Association has recently been reregistered.  The City just sent out a mailing for us\, and people are beginning to register.  We fall under the umbrella of the Hillsborough Wade CAC\, so I think we need to keep you apprised of our aims and activities.  The most important thing to keep in mind about this neighborhood is that it is a majority rental neighborhood and of that majority\, over 50% would qualify as “affordable” housing.  So for that reason\, we have a huge interest in keeping our neighbors informed about potential zoning and other changes that could adversely affect the economic diversity of our area.  We aren’t against increased density\, but we are definitely fighting thoughtless zoning approvals that will prematurely force existing renters out of their homes before creative ways to allow them to stay in the neighborhood are discussed. \nWe are also planning a celebration of the Boylan Bridge as a public gathering place to view the Raleigh skyline and to memorialize weddings\, graduations and other important life events.  The tentative date is November 5\, 2023.  We have applied for community event funding in partnership with the Boylan Heights Neighborhood Association and are awaiting approval. On that note\, you should also know that a group of us has started a non-profit called Friends of the Boylan Bridge\, Inc.  We just received word today that the City has given us $1000 for permanent artwork on the Bridge.  That won’t go far\, but it’s a start\, and over time we hope to get donations from businesses to help make the Bridge a major city attraction. \nHillsborough-Wade CAC meeting on Tuesday\, August 29th at 7:00 PM\nClick on this link: \nhttps://us02web.zoom.us/j/88193399127?pwd=VUtYbjJLNGtuc2N3MjQ5TmFTaTRldz09 \nMeeting ID: 881 9339 9127 \nPasscode: 509337 \n— \nOne tap mobile \n+13126266799\,\,88193399127#\,\,\,\,*509337# US (Chicago) \n+16465588656\,\,88193399127#\,\,\,\,*509337# US (New York) \nDial by your location \n• +1 312 626 6799 US (Chicago) \n• +1 646 558 8656 US (New York) \n• +1 646 931 3860 US \n• +1 301 715 8592 US (Washington DC) \n• +1 305 224 1968 US \n• +1 309 205 3325 US \n• +1 346 248 7799 US (Houston) \n• +1 360 209 5623 US \n• +1 386 347 5053 US \n• +1 507 473 4847 US \n• +1 564 217 2000 US \n• +1 669 444 9171 US \n• +1 669 900 9128 US (San Jose) \n• +1 689 278 1000 US \n• +1 719 359 4580 US \n• +1 253 205 0468 US \n• +1 253 215 8782 US (Tacoma) \nMeeting ID: 881 9339 9127 \nPasscode: 509337 \nFind your local number: https://us02web.zoom.us/u/kDYwWrge7
