DESCRIPTION:Unload your dearly departed electronic waste and let your old confidential documents shred in peace this spooky season!\n  \n\n\n \n\n\nJoin Solid Waste Services for the City of Raleigh’s 2026 Shred + Dead event! From 9 a.m. to noon on Saturday\, October 24 at the Wilders Grove Solid Waste Services Facility\, staff will be on hand to help residents dispose of specialty waste items. \n\n\nPlease use the main entrance for visitors and employees by turning right at the intersection of Corporation Parkway and Commerce Park Drive and follow the signage. A drive-thru system will be implemented to help ensure a smooth drop-off experience for residents. Participants are urged to drive slowly through the stations as there will be foot traffic and staff directing attendees.\n \n\n\nPlease note the following items will NOT be accepted: \n\n\n\nWashers\n\n\n\n\nDryers\n\n\n\n\nOvens\n\n\n\n\nRefrigerators\n\n\n\n\nPianos\n\n\n\n\n\n\nE-Waste disposal\n\n\nKeep your dead and unused small household appliances out of the landfill by dropping them off.\n\n\nExamples include air fryers\, hair dryers\, lamps\, TVs\, vacuums\, DVD players\, radios\, toasters\, and blenders. Think anything with a cord!\n \n\n\nPaper shredding\n\n\nA limit of four banker box-sized boxes or four large bags (13-gallon) of paper per household or business is in effect. Only one visit to the event per household please. Staples\, paper clips\, folders\, bound documents\, and envelopes are all safe for the shredding machines.\n\n\nPLEASE NOTE: Only sensitive documents should be brought for shredding. Other paper items such as mail\, newspapers\, printer paper\, and etc. should go in your regular curbside recycle bin.\n\n\n\nBattery disposal – Skip the bin\, turn your batteries in!\n\n\nWe will be accepting all household batteries\, both alkaline and lithium-ion (rechargeable). No large car\, boat\, or other vehicle batteries will be accepted\, and no damaged or leaking batteries will be accepted. \n \n\n\nLithium-ion batteries are commonly found in electric toothbrushes\, toys\, cordless vacuums\, power tools\, smart watches\, vapes\, and many more household items.\n\n\nPLEASE NOTE: Effective December 1\, 2026\, lithium-ion and rechargeable batteries are banned from North Carolina landfills. This means they can no longer be placed in your garbage bin for curbside collection. \n\n\n\nYard waste bag giveaway\n\n\nIn support of our new enhanced weekly yard waste service\, we will be handing out bundles of yard waste bags to residents. Staff will also be available to answer all your weekly yard waste questions! \n\n\n\n\n\nSay hello to some City of Raleigh Firefighters!\n\n\nOctober is Fire Prevention Month\, and we will have representatives from the City of Raleigh’s Fire Department on-site to discuss the importance of safe electronics charging.
