SUMMARY:Survivor Unmasking Brain Injury Workshop
DESCRIPTION:Unmasking Brain Injury Workshop\n\nEach year\, an estimated 1.7 million people sustain a traumatic brain injury (TBI)\, and about 5.3 million Americans are living with a TBI-related disability. To raise awareness and support those impacted\, Raleigh Parks Specialized Recreation and Inclusion Services is partnering with the Brain Injury Association of North Carolina to host an Unmasking Brain Injury Workshop at Sertoma Arts Center on March 17th from 10 AM to 12 PM. \nParticipants will create their own masks at the workshop. Masks and art supplies will be provided for all participants. \nIf you know someone in your community who might be interested in participating\, please feel free to share the registration link below. The workshop is free to attend\, and caregivers are welcome!  \nRegistration Link: BIANCunmaskingworkshop \nUnmasking Brain Injury Initiative\nThe Unmasking Brain Injury initiative was inspired by a National Geographic article featuring masks created by soldiers with Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD). A provider in North Carolina\, recognized the potential of this project for individuals with brain injuries\, and thus an awareness and advocacy movement was born! This project aims to promote awareness of the prevalence of brain injury and gives survivors a voice to share their experiences. It encourages them to educate others on what it’s like to live with a brain injury and highlights the importance of dignity\, respect\, and the opportunity for individuals living with brain injury-related disabilities to contribute meaningfully to their communities. \nEvent Details\n\nDate: Monday\, March 17th\, from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m.\nLocation: Sertoma Arts Center\, 1400 Millbrook Road\, Raleigh\, NC 27612\nCost: Free and open to public\nRegistration Link: BIANCunmaskingworkshop
