SUMMARY:Southwest Raleigh Community Engagement Meeting
DESCRIPTION:Join us Monday night\, May 12th at 7 PM for our regularly scheduled Southwest Raleigh Community Engagement Meeting. This will be a virtual meeting using Zoom. \n\nGreetings to Friends and Neighbors\nCity of Raleigh Inspections Report – Inspector David Johnson. David Johnson may tell us what is changing this season with property upkeep and leaf collections.\nCity of Raleigh Monthly Report and Update – Captain Manson (SW-Southwest). Captain Notch (SE-Southeast)\, Captain Van Antwerp (DT-Downtown). Our SW area is now part of three Raleigh Police Districts.\nCarolina Pines Ave Improvement Project – Raleigh City Council recently provided final approval for the Street and sidewalk project that will extend from Lake Wheeler Rd. to South Saunders St. After several years we are close to a Contractor and Construction schedule meeting. This is going to be a complex project.\nRaleigh Golf Association (RGA) – Land Sale and Rezoning – RGA property north of Tryon Rd. is in the process of being sold. There is a rezoning case that will allow “Affordable 60% AMI” apartments being built there. The number of units planned is currently about 370. Representatives from the developer are scheduled to give us some views of what they are planning.\nGipson Play Plaza Opening This Spring at Dix Park – Gipson Play Plaza is going to be opening in early June. Bringing all of the plans together for the opening is complicated due to the anticipated popularity of the Play Plaza. We should know more about specific dates and access for close neighbors soon.\nCommunity Safety – We all need to discuss any ideas about how we can make our neighborhoods safer. Incidents occur. How we come together matters a lot.\n\nComments and updates from our community leaders and residents. \nFor June 9th we will be back to our in person Ice Cream Social. My treat. We are scheduled at our traditional home Carolina Pines Community Center\, 2305 Lake Wheeler Rd. for our Spring In Person Community Meeting at 7:00pm.\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nJoin the Zoom Meeting

SUMMARY:East CAC
DESCRIPTION:Hi Neighbors! \n\nPlease join the East CAC next Monday for our monthly meeting.\n\n5/19/2025\nLions Park Community Center\n7 pm\n\nWe are lucky to have Senior Engineer Sheri Smith joining us to tell us about the Pigeon House Watershed study and take your questions. The goal of the study is to identify ways to improve the watershed by reducing flooding\, replacing/renewing stormwater pipes and infrastructure in poor condition\, improve water quality\, and repairing stream banks.\n\n\n\nThere is also time for folks to share information about things going on in our area and have a general discussion.\n\nMy co-chair Mark records the meetings live on Facebook and YouTube. He keeps an eye on the chat so you can ask questions even if you aren’t physically present. You can even watch them later. \nhttps://youtube.com/@east-cac\n\nhttps://www.facebook.com/share/1KvGvjd3Fr/?mibextid=wwXIfr\n\n\n\nI did want to mention that we’ve been having low turnout at our recent meetings even accounting for folks watching virtually. We can always move the meetings to every other month if monthly is proving too frequent. If you’d like to attend meetings but can’t I’d love to hear from you separately about your reasons. Please email me! We want as many people as possible to be able to participate. If the day or time is a problem we might need to do a poll to see if there’s a better time.\n\nBest\,\nJean Mosher\nEast CAC Chair

SUMMARY:Southwest Raleigh Community Engagement -- In-Person Meeting
DESCRIPTION:SW Community Meeting at the Carolina Pines Community Center (2305 Lake Wheeler Rd.). We will meet in person\, without streaming\, next Monday evening\, June 9th\, at 7:00 pm.  \n\nThere will be reports from Raleigh Police Officers and City Inspections.\nWe plan to have a special update from Lisa Genschel\, of the Dix Park Conservancy who will tell us about a new way to participate in and support Dix Park activities. The official opening of the beautiful new Gipson Play Plaza at Dorothea Dix Park is scheduled this coming weekend (June 6-8).\n\n Carolina Pines Improvement Project – With the contract for construction along the entire length of Carolina Pines Avenue having been awarded we should be seeing a Pre-Construction meeting with our neighborhood in the coming weeks. That meeting for Community with the City Engineering Services and Contractor will be at Carolina Pines Community Center. Date and time TBD.\nI have been told that we can use the Center’s freezer. Therefore\, I will\, as previously promised\, donate ice cream. Please come and help with the ice cream.  Since I have no idea as to how many will attend I don’t need to be left with melting cartons and no freezer space. Please bring help. Kids welcome.\n\nThis meeting is intended to be focused on sharing interests\, and concerns and just acquainting ourselves with our neighbors. Please join this gathering if you can. Hopefully\, we will have a good turnout. I plan to schedule in-person meetings four times a year (next one in September) the others will continue to use Zoom.\n\nChair set-up in our traditional room at Carolina Pines Center will start at about 6:45 pm. Our next meeting in July will resume the popular Zoom/Streaming format.

SUMMARY:Special Meeting of West Raleigh CAC
DESCRIPTION:Special Meeting of West Raleigh CAC\nWe are holding a special in person meeting on Tuesday September 16th at 1:00pmto meet with a reporter from the News and Observer. Larry King who lives next to the affordable housing development called Lorimer Springs that is to be built this year will also be in attendance. This is an in person meeting only\, there will be no zoom link or recordings made of the meeting. There will be a photographer from the N&O. \nThe density allowed along the Frequent Transit Area (FTA) or Transit Overlay District (TOD) is of concern to Larry and other neighbors. The West Raleigh CAC is offering the space for concerned residents to meet. This is in addition to the two meetings that were held earlier this year to discuss this issue. This is an open meeting and will last one hour. \nAt this time\, there is no indication that Lorimer Springs will modify it’s proposed density of 60 units in a three story building. A site plan has been filed with the City that meets the zoning conditions of the FTA. \nTime: \nTuesday September 16th at 1:00pm \nLocation: \nPowell Drive Park Neighborhood Center \n740 Powell Drive

The Zoom link is at the bottom of this email. \nINFORMATION UPDATES: \n\nOne of our agenda items is a presentation about a possible text change regarding outdoor advertising and digital signage in Raleigh. At the Tuesday\, September 2nd City Council meeting this topic was discussed. Click here for the minutes and a video of the digital signage discussion. While looking at the minutes you can click on the video\, which should start at the beginning of this particular Council discussion.\nAs I understand the text change\, they are not asking for an increase in the number of billboards in Raleigh. They are seeking the ability to make many of them digital signs\, and the ability to relocate signs to other locations. Also an increase in size and height of signs. At the bottom of this email are maps of current locations and areas for future relocations. Attached is a PDF of the Digital Billboards presentation made to the Safe\, Vibrant & Healthy Community Committee on August 26.\nWe also have major changes to how Raleigh conducts City Council elections\, including the introduction of a primary for the 2026 election. This will all be explained at our meeting.\nWe will have an update about rezoning case Z-12-25. The last image at the bottom of this email shows the context of this 30-story rezoning request.\n\nAgenda\n• Police report\n• Presentation about a future request to City Council for a text modification to change the City’s policy regarding Digital Signage in Raleigh. These are digital billboards that change images every 8 seconds or so. The presentation will cover the requested change and potential community benefits.\n• Presentation about Raleigh’s new voting rules that will include a primary for the 2026 elections.\n• Update on rezoning case Z-12-25 at the corner of Peace and West Streets. \nSee you on the 23rd\, \nMike \n\nMichael Lindsay\nChair of the Hillsborough-Wade CAC\nMobile: 919-429-0177\ninform@nc.rr.com \nHillsborough-Wade CAC September Meeting \nTime: Sep 23\, 2025 07:00 PM Eastern Time (US and Canada) \nJoin Zoom Meeting \nhttps://us02web.zoom.us/j/82899402290?pwd=bjfswbPV6ijOsWcr3I09JJ9k1OxwaL.1 \nMeeting ID: 828 9940 2290 \nPasscode: 344753 \n— \nOne tap mobile \n+16465588656\,\,82899402290#\,\,\,\,*344753# US (New York) \n+16469313860\,\,82899402290#\,\,\,\,*344753# US \nJoin instructions \nhttps://us02web.zoom.us/meetings/82899402290/invitations?signature=ncZeCwDBKdyiy-nLz5lMjQ3VfrJqIE0BAEGgyFt8sYw \n \n \n \n
