SUMMARY:Southwest Community Engagement Meeting
DESCRIPTION:After four and a half years\, we have approval for access to the Carolina Pines Community Center (2305 Lake Wheeler Rd.) \nWe will meet in person\, without streaming\, this coming Monday evening\, September 9th\, at 7:00 pm. There will be reports from Raleigh Police Officers and City Inspections followed by social time. Hopefully\, we can also return to having a program update about Carolina Pines Park’s activities. \nI have been told that we can also use the Center’s freezer. Therefore\, I will\, as previously promised\, donate some ice cream. Please come and help with the ice cream. Since I have no idea as to how many will attend I don’t need to be left with melting cartons and no freezer space. \nThis meeting is intended to be focused on sharing interests\, and concerns and just reacquainting ourselves with our neighbors. Several of our City Councilors have indicated they plan to attend. Please join this gathering if you can. Hopefully\, we will have a good turnout. So much of the World has changed over the last few years. If this goes well\, I plan to schedule in-person meetings four times a year. (next one in December) The others will continue to use Zoom\, \nChair set-up in our traditional room will start at about 6:45 pm. \nOur next meeting in October will resume the Zoom/Streaming format. Captain Notch (SE-Southeast)\, Captain Van Antwerp (DT-Downtown). Our SW area is now part of three Raleigh Police Districts.\nCarolina Pines Ave Improvement Project – Dean Fox\, PE. Project Engineer for the City of Raleigh will give us an update on the project. Improvements which include a two lane street with traffic calming along with sidewalks and a Multi-use Pathway is nearing a point where a contractor will be chosen and construction will begin.\n\n\nNew Comprehensive Plan – Sarah Shaughnessy and Robert Tate from the City of Raleigh Planning Department will go over the process that is updating the Comprehensive Plan for the City of Raleigh.\nComments and updates from our community leaders and residents.\nOur November meeting (Monday the 11th) is cancelled since it falls on the federal holiday Veterans’ Day.  In December we will be returning to our traditional home at Carolina Pines Community Center (December 9th) for our Holiday Social.\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nZoom Link

DESCRIPTION:Friends and neighbors: \nSW Community Holiday Meeting at the Carolina Pines Community Center (2305 Lake Wheeler Rd.)\nWe will meet in person\, without streaming\, next Monday evening\, December 9th\, at 7:00 pm. There will be reports from Raleigh Police Officers and City Inspections followed by social time. We also plan to have an update about Carolina Pines Park’s facilities additions.\nI have been told that we can also use the Center’s freezer. Therefore\, I will\, as previously promised\, donate some ice cream. Please come and help with the ice cream. Holiday cookies and delights will also be very welcome. Since I have no idea as to how many will attend I don’t need to be left with melting cartons and no freezer space. Please bring help. Kids welcome. \n\nThis meeting is intended to be focused on sharing interests\, and concerns and just acquainting ourselves with our neighbors. Several of our City Councilors have indicated they plan to attend. Please join this gathering if you can. Hopefully\, we will have a good turnout. I plan to schedule in-person meetings four times a year. (next one in March) The others will continue to use Zoom\, \nChair set-up in our traditional room will start at about 6:45 pm. \nOur next meeting in January will resume the Zoom/Streaming format. DESCRIPTION:Hi CAC neighbors\, \nOur Hillsborough-Wade CAC meeting is tomorrow evening Tuesday\, January 28 at 7:00 PM. Our meeting location is at the Pullen Community Center at 408 Ashe Avenue. \nThis meeting is critical to making progress this year with Raleigh’s new community engagement efforts. As you may recall\, it was a year ago in early February that District E City Councilor Christina Jones introduced a series of motions to re-establish the City of Raleigh’s recognition and support of CACs. While we’ve made some progress this past year\, we have much to do this year. Including making sure every Raleigh resident has an equal opportunity to be represented by a CAC where they live. CAC volunteers and City staff need to work together to stand back up CACs in parts of town where they disappeared after the 2020 City Council vote to stop supporting CACs. As a CAC Chair and RCAC Chair\, Christina Jones reminded the Council every month for 4 years that the City never came up with any new community engagement opportunities to replace CACs.  Almost a year ago Christina led the City Council to reverse that mistake from 2020.
