SUMMARY:Eastgate Community Garden: Fall Harvest and Poetry Workshop
DESCRIPTION:Join public artist Austen Camille and members of the Eastgate Community Garden for this two-part gardening and poetry event! \nBefore harvesting fall vegetables together\, participants will join artist and writer Austen Camille to create a series of short poems about the connections between tending to plants and the idea of ‘home’. Austen Camille will guide you through poetry prompts\, and the focus will be on using our senses to notice the plants closely. Prompts will be available in both English and Spanish! \nAt the end of the event\, each participant will have the opportunity to have their poetry included in signage describing the community garden raised beds and in a future artwork located at River Cane Wetland Park! They will also have freshly harvested produce to bring home and share! \nRegister for the workshop. \nLearn more about Public Art at River Cane Wetland Park.

SUMMARY:Weaving Plastic Bags: Artist-Led Workshop #2
DESCRIPTION:Help create a public artwork by weaving reused materials!\n  \nJoin SEEK Raleigh artist Patrizia Ferreira at Walnut Creek Wetland Park to co-create a public artwork out of reused plastic bags. \nWorkshops are free to the public. While registration is not required\, we encourage you to RSVP on Eventbrite (click the register button above) so we can plan accordingly and receive any event updates. \nLearn more about the project \n  \n\n\n \nAbout the Instructor\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nPatrizia Ferreira is an artist and educator living in Cary\, NC. Her work laboriously incorporates the debris of her surroundings—namely\, textiles and plastic—to create poetic pieces that speak of our society of over consumption and the state of our environment. By giving life to otherwise inanimate materials\, she invites viewers to reflect upon the repercussions our actions cause on our planet. A native of Uruguay\, a great part of her work reflects on being an immigrant and being a woman. Patrizia received a BA in textile design from the Institute of Industrial Design in Uruguay and an MS in textile design for prints from Philadelphia University.

SUMMARY:Ciba Punch
DESCRIPTION:his workshop is part of a SEEK Raleigh public art project\, Ciba Punch 女拳手打糍粑. \nCiba Punch 女拳手打糍粑 is a participatory performance led by the Chinese Artists and Organizers Collective (CAO). Rooted in an ethic of care\, the project invites community members to join in the process of transforming steamed sticky rice into ciba (糍粑 – traditional Chinese rice cakes often enjoyed with brown sugar or other toppings) by punching the rice. \nIn bringing the making of Ciba into public space\, the artists aim to honor and reframe the traditionally feminized labor of cooking\, while highlighting food as a living archive for community connection\, cultural exchange\, and movement building. Participants are invited to channel emotions such as rage\, grief\, and love into the shared labor of food-making. \nDuring the performance\, “Spiritual Figures” will move through the space\, offering quiet guidance through humming and breathwork\, embodying the presence of queer/feminist ancestors and future selves. \nAudience Participation\nAll are welcome to participate in the Ciba Punch. Sanitation gloves will be provided; however\, the food produced during the performance will not be prepared under regulated food safety conditions. Consumption of the rice cakes will be at the participants’ own risk. \nEvent Details\nDate: Sunday\, Sept. 28\nTime: 3 – 5 p.m.\nLocation: Dorothea Dix Park – grassy field next to Chapel – 1030 Richardson Dr\, Raleigh\, NC 27603 \nWhile free to attend\, space is limited. Registration is required. \nLearn more about this project.

SUMMARY:Weaving Plastic Bags: Artist-Led Workshop #1
DESCRIPTION:Help create a public artwork by weaving reused materials!\n  \nJoin SEEK Raleigh artist Patrizia Ferreira at Walnut Creek Wetland Park to co-create public artwork from reused plastic bags. You will be working under Patrizia’s direction to turn plastic bags into a large-scale public artwork.
