SUMMARY:LGBTQ Film Series: Longtime Companion
DESCRIPTION:Don’t miss out on our LGBTQIA+ Film Series screening!\nJoin us for our monthly program on the fourth Tuesday of the month. We will be showcasing films with diverse themes around sexuality and gender. This program is co-hosted with the Carolina Aging Alliance. \nAll folks 18 and older are welcome! January’s Film is “Longtime Companion.” Longtime Companion follows the lives of a small circle of friends from the first mention of the disease in the New York Times in 1981. First referred to as “Gay-Related-Immune-Disorder\,” we watch the effect of the disease as it devastates the lives of our protagonists. Jumping between Manhattan and Fire Island\, vignettes carry us from the it-couldn’t-happen-to-me mentality of the early days of the disease to the invasive effect it has had on all of our lives\, today. \nThe title of the film comes from the New York Times’ refusal to acknowledge homosexual relationships in their obituary section during this period. Instead\, survivors were referred to as “Longtime Companions” of the deceased. \nLocation: Five Points Center for Active Adults\nAge: 18 and older\nCost: Free\nRegister on RecLink

SUMMARY:Hillsborough-Wade CAC meeting
DESCRIPTION:Hi CAC neighbors\, \nOur Hillsborough-Wade CAC meeting is tomorrow evening Tuesday\, January 28 at 7:00 PM. Our meeting location is at the Pullen Community Center at 408 Ashe Avenue. \nThis meeting is critical to making progress this year with Raleigh’s new community engagement efforts. As you may recall\, it was a year ago in early February that District E City Councilor Christina Jones introduced a series of motions to re-establish the City of Raleigh’s recognition and support of CACs. While we’ve made some progress this past year\, we have much to do this year. Including making sure every Raleigh resident has an equal opportunity to be represented by a CAC where they live. CAC volunteers and City staff need to work together to stand back up CACs in parts of town where they disappeared after the 2020 City Council vote to stop supporting CACs. As a CAC Chair and RCAC Chair\, Christina Jones reminded the Council every month for 4 years that the City never came up with any new community engagement opportunities to replace CACs.  Almost a year ago Christina led the City Council to reverse that mistake from 2020. Click here or on the WRAL image below to watch a short news report from last February. \n\nClick on above image to watch a news report about CACs. \nDistrict E City Councilor Christina Jones will talk about her new appointment as the City’s official liaison to CACs. With Tiesha Mosley and Christina Jones at our meeting this will an excellent start for the new year and community engagement in Raleigh! This meeting will be your opportunity to talk with our new CAC Liaison and Engagement Office Director about efforts by the City of Raleigh to engage Raleigh residents and plans for more progress this year. \n   \nAGENDA\n• Police report.\n• Update about RCAC and outreach to City Council.\n• Presentation by Tiesha Mosley\, the Director of Raleigh’s Community Engagement Office\, about the reorganization of the Community Engagement Office to include Neighborhood Services.\n• District E City Councilor Christina Jones will talk about her new appointment as the City’s official liaison to CACs.\n• Update on rezoning cases in our CAC. \nSee you Tuesday evening\,\nMike\nMichael Lindsay\nChair of the Hillsborough-Wade CAC\nMobile: 919-429-0177\ninform@nc.rr.com \n\n \n\nPlease remember our meeting place is at the Pullen Community Center at 408 Ashe Avenue.
