SUMMARY:A session on Restrictive Covenants\, the African Enslaved Project\, and Black Land Loss
DESCRIPTION:Fourth Ward Celebration \nAugust 15\, 2024 \nYou’re invited! \nGreetings! I am Octavia Rainey\, a Raleigh Historian. I would like to invite you to an event series to learn more about the Fourth Ward neighborhood you live in. \nThe history goes back to the Cannon Planation. The Cannon family land was located near the railroad track and sold to freedmen. The Fourth Ward neighborhood was once a thriving African American neighborhood that was destroyed in the mid-1960s by urban renewal. The Fourth Ward is the name of our neighborhood\, and we must maintain the name of our neighborhood. \nThe City of Raleigh has a long-standing history of supporting activities that celebrate the rich history and cultural heritage of the city’s neighborhoods both past and present. \nThis weeklong celebration is an excellent opportunity to come out and meet your old neighbors\, talk about the past\, and learn about the future of the Fourth Ward. \nPlease join me at any or all of the six Fourth Ward Celebration events listed below. I’m looking forward to seeing you there. \nAugust 26 – September 1 Events \nMonday\, August 26\, 6p.m. – 7p.m.: A Celebration of Mount Hope Cemetery Fourth Ward\, Mount Hope Cemetery\, 120 Prospect Avenue \nWednesday\, August 28\, 6p.m. – 8p.m.: Kickoff of the Fourth Ward Exhibit at the City of Raleigh Museum\, 220 Fayetteville Street (Exhibits will run through Sunday\, Sept. 21 2024) \nThursday\, August 29\, 6p.m. – 8p.m.: The Fourth Ward Meet and Greet\, at the Raleigh Pathways Center\, 900 S.
